Mark started his security career in 2001 as a Security Analyst, and since then has been both fighting for blue team resources and trying to automate them out of a job. He has built, assessed, and managed security teams at the Pentagon, the White House, the Department of Energy, global Managed Security Service Providers, and numerous Fortune 500 clients. He co-founded Bionic to help clients realize their potential in defending their networks without long-term reliance on vendors and service providers, from doing the fundamentals to smart application of advanced technologies.

Mark teaches SANS SEC450: Blue Team Fundamentals and Security Operations and LDR551: Building and Leading Security Operations Centers, and has presented at DefCon's Blue Team Village, BSidesDC, BSides Charlotte, CircleCityCon, GrayHatCon/BTV, and the RSA Conference. He has also been quoted in the New York Times, the Washington Post, Forbes, CNBC, SC Magazine, and many other publications. He holds the SANS GMON and GCDA certifications, a Bachelor's Degree in Advanced Information Technology from George Mason University, and served in the US Marine Corps as an Artillery Non-Commissioned Officer.

Data-driven security has been Ryan's passion for 20 years. From intrusion analysis using Network Flight Recorder (NFR) to construction of an enterprise-wide email analysis platform and development of a patented threat intelligence hunting technology, Ryan has sought new challenges in data mining and analysis throughout his career. He enjoys building and leading teams to explore both new frontiers and to look for missed opportunities in well-traveled spaces. As Bionic's CTO, Ryan leads customer solution development and execution teams, as well as Bionic's research and development organization.

Ryan is the former Director of Research and Development and Chief Operating Officer for Raytheon’s US Cyber business. He has presented on data analysis and open source intelligence gathering at BSidesDC, has been featured in industry publications such as Dark Reading, and is a contributor to collegiate security curricula. Ryan was one of the first SANS certified professionals in Security Essentials and holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Information Systems from James Madison University.
